Children learn how to cook at farmers' market

PARENTS and producers have banded together in Hildenborough this month to show the next generation that cooking isn’t just for mum and dad. As part of the weekly farmers’ market, ‘Cooking for Kids’ sessions have been held during August. The periodical event has been going since the market started nine years ago, and has always proved popular.

On Tuesday August 8, around 40 young visitors took part – trying their hand at making Spanish omelettes.

Market organiser Julie Kury said: “While their parents or grandparents take full advantage of the wonderful local produce available in our lively market, the children can be ‘hands on’ and learn that cooking isn’t rocket science, and that it is easy to make your own food. The first week we made scones, and our third and fourth weeks this year will feature biscuits and then fruit kebabs.” Hildenborough Farmers’ Market is held weekly at the St John’s Church Centre.
