A colourful combination of cultures from all over the world has been chosen as the theme for this year’s annual Tonbridge Carnival on Sunday, June 19.
The main procession will feature around 30 groups in what is regarded as one of the highlights on the town’s annual calendar.
Its Chairman, Peter Godsall of Tonbridge Lions, which organises the carnival, said: “It is really nice that the event coincides with Father’s Day, so we expect there will be lots of families there joining it.
The carnival gets underway with the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Big Band playing by the Watergate entrance from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
There will also be the Southern England Marching Band Competition, which will feature groups parading through the High Street. The winning entrants will perform in the fete arena on the castle lawn.
The carnival procession will assemble in the Sovereign Way North car park and the groups and charities taking part will start parading down the High Street at 12.30pm.
There will be fete stalls on the castle lawn and along Castle Walk including tombola, prize draws, coconut shy, crazy kitchen, plus a chance to buy toys, books, cakes and refreshments.
The kids’ corner will include a magician and Punch and Judy show and other acts will perform in the arena.
The carnival, which has been held annually for more than 30 years, is staged with support from Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. It will be raising money for disadvantaged people within the area.
