THE FOUNDER of Tonbridge’s first calendar received a prestigious award from the town’s Lions Club last week [Monday, May 8].
Suzannah Niklas of Tonbridge Daily, an online community blog, accepted the Holly Renny Award at the Hadlow Manor Hotel for her donation of all the proceeds from the calendar – more than £3,000.
They proved to be so popular the original print run of 500 sold out, meaning an additional 200 had to be printed.
The Holly Renny Award is the highest honour a non-Lions member can receive from the club. Named after former Lions District Governor for the British Isles and Ireland, the award was established after his death in 1992.
It is only awarded once a year to a person or organisation who has provided significant service to the Club.
Mrs Niklas said: “I was honoured to receive such a prestigious award from the Tonbridge Lions Club. Working together with their members was a pleasure and I have made some very good friends along the way.
“I am delighted that over £3,000 from the Tonbridge Daily 2017 Calendar could be contributed to their charity funds, and to be recognised with such a celebrated award is humbling.
“Here’s hoping the 2018 calendar will be an even bigger success for Tonbridge, so that even more local charities and worthy concerns can benefit.”
Lions President Bob Bartlett said: “On behalf of the Tonbridge Lions Club, it was my pleasure to present Suzannah Niklas of Tonbridge Daily with the Holly Renny award this evening for her continuous efforts in promoting the work of the Lions Club and for her very generous donation of all of the 2017 Tonbridge Daily Calendar proceeds, which will greatly benefit our local community.”
