Busking for the brave: Charity event showcasing the area's musical talent

THE town centre will be brought to life this weekend as some of Tonbridge’s best musicians do their bit for the Royal British Legion.

Busking Beyond The Grounds will see the acts using River Walk as their stage on Saturday [September 2].
It is the first of many events that the Tonbridge Poppy 100 team are putting together over the next year in the lead-up to the centenary of the end of World War One, in order to raise funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal.

The event will be held outside local café Beyond The Grounds alongside the river Medway with a line-up consisting of emerging talent as well as established bands and singer song-writers including local Lee Williams, who has featured on national radio and MTV and won a battle of the bands against 12,000 other groups worldwide.

The day will also feature a Cockney sing-along by the popular Tom Carradine and the talents of ten year old vocalist Kiah Spurle as well as the upcoming local singer Ryan Weeks.

Head of Poppy 100 Carl Lewis said: “Tonbridge loves live and local music, and what better place to see local talent than by the river at one of our fantastic cafés, Beyond The Grounds. There will be music to cater for all ages, and we hope to raise much needed funds for the Royal British Legion.

“The busking kicks off a series of events organised by the Tonbridge Poppy Appeal team and the local organisations and companies that support us. I hope the people of our great town will be as generous as last year, when we raised over £34,000.”
