The Executive Head of Bennett Memorial, Ian Bauckham, is celebrating after receiving the CBE from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace during an investiture ceremony on Thursday [November 23].
He was appointed Head in 2004 and has helped make Bennett one of the most popular and high performing schools in the South East.
He was awarded the honour for his services to education. He also leads the Tenax Schools Trust, a Church of England Multi Academy Trust which exists to provide ‘outstanding education’ in secondary and primary schools across Kent and East Sussex.
It includes, under its umbrella, Bennett Memorial and also the new Bishop Chavasse Primary in Tonbridge.
Mr Bauckham said: “I am both delighted and humbled to accept this award, and pay tribute to the many great educationalists and teachers with whom I have worked over the years both locally and nationally, including all those at Bennett.
“Offering a great education to our young people is one of the most important investments we make in the future and I am proud to have made a small contribution to this work.”
Mr Bauckham has a number of other national roles, including advising the Department for Education, inspecting schools and heading the Association of Schools and College Leaders of which he was national president from 2013-2014.
