DAM BUSTER: Jodie Rickets was in confident mood

Contested over the Ironman distance, the race started with a two-lap 3.8km swim, starting at the iconic Kunstlinie Theatre on Almere Esplanade.

Rickets, who was in confident mood after a consistent training block, exited the water in 1hr 20min and made a swift transition to the bike.

The 180km bike route led out to the dyke for spectacular views across the city. The course continued through a wildlife reserve and across a section of reclaimed land below sea level.

The long, straight roads were exposed to the elements and athletes had to contend with challenging headwinds. Rickets measured her effort to complete the bike course in 6:47.

The six-lap marathon looped through the city centre before returning to the lake with enthusiastic support along the Esplanade.

Consistent pacing ensured that Rickets completed the run in 4hr 17min. It marked an impressive debut at the event as her time of 12hr 40min saw her finish fourth in the F30 Age Group.
