Sailing: Bewl's Westwell and Gatehouse selected for British team

SIX young Optimist sailors from Bewl Barbarians Sailing Club [BBSC] aged 11 to 15 compete with the top 80 sailors in the country at Weymouth for the opportunity to represent Britain in the World and European Junior Series.

After a tricky four days of sailing in light winds, Freddie Westwell finished in fifth place and was selected for the Worlds team.

His club mate Jamie Gatehouse came sixth and was picked for the Europeans team.

Among the other Barbarians, Thicome Biron-Monnier came 11th, Jesse Kibble 15th, Charlie Gatehouse 17th and Saskia Levy Dethmers 32nd.

BBSC Chairman Will Gatehouse said: ‘With a further three sailors in the top 20 they have certainly put Bewl back on the map for junior sailing.’
