Rugby: Torment of Tout keeps Tonbridge Juddians' run going

Tonbridge Juddians 22 Redruth 7
TONBRIDGE JUDDIANS kept up their excellent run of form at home to Redruth from Cornwall, making it five wins and a draw out of the last six games in National Two South.
The conditions were once again not conducive to open, running rugby and much of the first half was played between the two teams’ respective 22-metre lines.
The home side created the more likely scoring opportunities, and the only try of the first half came after a Will Robinson crosskick to the left corner. TJs stole the lineout ball and a series of drives saw Ben Ashmore crash over.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with the TJs’ defensive line shutting out the visitors. They also increased the tempo at times to push Redruth back.
Another series of forward drives created space for a pass out wide on the right to Hugo Watson, who just got over in the corner.
Robinson added the extras from the touchline in style to make the score 12-0.
Redruth hit back almost immediately with a converted try as TJs allowed them to get field position and 12-7 tightened things up a little.
But TJs were now finding more room and the backs showed a cutting edge. A route one kick off a TJ ruck saw the space open up for Duncan Tout.
The Cornishman known as the Bude Bullet went through the gears to arc round the full-back and score, Robinson converting.
Robinson added a penalty to make it 22-7 and although Redruth threatened towards the end, the TJ door had well and truly shut.
The Tonbridge side, in fifth place in the table, now head to a resurgent Clifton in Bristol on Saturday [December 15, kick-off 2.30pm] at the halfway point in the season.
