Rugby: England star inspires Tunbridge Wells schools’ festival

The event was part of the two-day Tunbridge Wells schools tag rugby festival at St Marks, and she spent time training the girls before presenting the awards.

The hooker and back rower, who won 69 caps for her country, was part of the 2014 World Cup-winning squad and last year’s Commonwealth Games bronze medal team.

Players from Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar (TWGGS),  Bennett Memorial, Trinity and St Gregory’s participated in the event.

In the Under-13s category there was only one point between the three teams with Bennett topping the group, TWGGS second and Trinity in third.

In the Under-15s, St Gregory’s came out top with TWGGS and Trinity sharing second place.

The Town & Country Housing primary schools tag festival kicked off the weekend, with more than 200 players from 14 schools taking part.

There were more than 50 matches and the players showed enthusiasm, team spirit and determination despite the wet weather.
