Jonny Bairstow drops by on his way to World Cup

The opening batsman was taking part in a product launch for local cricket equipment manufacturer Gray Nicholls.

Matt McKinnon, Director of Sport at the prep school, said: “Jonny stopped by for a surprise practice session in our sports hall.  Word spread through the school like wildfire and exams were finished in record time.

“The children raced to the terrace, where Jonny made his way out to say hello.

“He happily chatted and autographed bats, pads and even the occasional trainer.

He added: “We were very impressed by how generous he was with his time and wish him all the very best at the World Cup.”

The prolific 29-year-old Yorkshireman suffered a first-ball duck in the opening game of the global showpiece against South Africa but then found his form and hit a half-century against Bangladesh last weekend.

Vinehall regularly links up with Gray Nicolls, which has its headquarters in the village, alongside sister companies Grays and Gilbert, the rugby supplier, for their conferences and product launches.
