TUNBRIDGE WELLS Ladies had to settle for a hard-earned point at Kent College after a match which showed their resilience in what is proving to be a tricky campaign in East Region Division One South.
The match started at a fast pace and inside the first 10 minutes Wells conceded a short corner. A slick, straight strike routine saw the visitors find the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
So Wells found themselves going behind early on once again, but they pulled themselves together and settled, with the defensive line of Amy Hare and Peta Sadler interlinking well with Sophie Hewitt and Harriet Alexander.
Player of the match Annie Wilson worked hard to confound the opposition’s defence and regularly carried the ball up through midfield to supply Amelia Honavar up front.
The home side carried that momentum into the second half and applied constant pressure to Old Loughts for the first 10 minutes, earning a series of short corners.
From the third of these, after a straight strike attempt was saved, Wilson followed up with a quick rebound to find the back of the net and level the scores at 1-1.
Both sides were now playing a very physical game and battling hard for the next goal, and the flow of the match was disrupted.
Wells kept cool heads and worked as a defensive unit, with Imogen Jenner keeping possession well as the visitors attempted to gain a foothold.
Having overcome this period of pressure, Wells dominated the final ten minutes but despite having several short corner opportunities, they could not find winner.
The Ladies now face a tough challenge as they travel to league leaders Maidstone on Saturday [December 1, 12pm start].
