TUNBRIDGE WELLS Ladies’ faced a stiff challenge from their opponents and the weather when they travelled to Upminster, who moved into joint top spot in East Region Division One South after this result.

The visitors made an excellent start to the game and took an early lead with a fine goal from Annie Wilson in the opening minutes.

Wells kept the momentum going and stayed strong on the attack, creating many opportunities, but as has often been the case this season, they couldn’t convert them.

The home side were fighting hard and on the break they demonstrated some good set plays.

They secured two short corners which they managed to capitalise on, giving them a 2-1 lead by half-time.

Wells found themselves on the defensive again after the break and Ali Playle, their player of the match, showed superb keeping skills in defending many well-struck shots.

The visitors tried to remain positive as it grew ever colder and kept fighting until the end despite Upminster scoring twice.

The Ladies face another stern test when they host Bishop’s Stortford at Kent College on Saturday [February 9, 1pm start].
