PITCH PERFECT Wells turn on the style at Tonbridge School

WINCHESTER arrived at Tonbridge School with a 100 per cent record in the South Premier League Division One, but Tunbridge Wells produced an impressive performance to inflict their first defeat.

After a strong start and increasing pressure, Wells forced the first penalty corner of the game which Harry Roberts converted expertly.

The visitors rallied and increased the pressure on the Wells defence, which held strong until a bouncing pass managed to sneak through and was tapped in at the back post.

After several close calls at either end, the sides went into half-time on level terms.

In the second half, Wells increased their intensity and after 20 minutes Ben Allberry calmly finished a flowing move with a reverse stick rocket, following an excellent ball into the circle from Russell Self.

Wells diligently held their ground and finished the game strongly, extending their lead with a thunderbolt from Self with only a few seconds left on the clock.

After a tough start following their promotion, the result and performance will help to kickstart Wells’ season.

They now face a trip to last year’s bogey team Banbury on Saturday [October 20, 12.30pm start].
