DALE HILL Golf Club in Wadhurst is holding a bowel cancer awareness Red Trouser Day on Thursday October 4.

The inaugural event aims to raise £5,000 for bowel cancer research at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London.

After playing on the course designed by Ian Woosnam, golfers will enjoy an afternoon meal with former Wales and British & Irish Lions rugby union legend John Taylor as guest speaker.

Individual golfers can play for £75, while a team of four costs £300. For £100, local businesses can sponsor a hole on the course with their company banner as well as display their marketing materials at the clubhouse for the day.

The Red Trouser day has been organised by Geoff Morris, who survived bowel cancer having undergone surgery at The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford in January.

He said: “Our golf day will be great fun, with a fantastic championship course awaiting our teams, prizes for winners and contestants, auction prizes, and anecdotes from the golden age of the British & Irish Lions.

“It’s got something for everyone, so we hope many more golfers, or people who support are charity, will sign up.

There will also be talk by Dr Irene Chong, Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Clinician Scientist at The Royal Marsden, on recent advances in bowel cancer treatments.

Set up in 2016, Red Trouser Day is an independent charity, raising awareness of bowel cancer, which is the UK’s fourth biggest killer with 40,000 people diagnosed every year.

Its founder Paul Finch said: “Red Trouser Day is about having fun and raising awareness of bowel cancer, so we’re particularly pleased that Irene Chong from The Royal Marsden  will be with us, talking about the remarkable advances they are making in treating bowel cancer.

“We’re making remarkable strides in treating bowel cancer year by year through world-class research being carried out and funded right here in the UK.”
