TUNBRIDGE WELLS took home a well-deserved point after an entertaining draw at Canterbury’s temporary stadium in Faversham.

City started brightly and in the 9th minute Adam Woollcott’s well-taken free kick crept low past the defensive wall and into the bottom corner of Wells keeper Cameron Hall’s net.

Play was broken up by free kicks and stoppages, and a minute before half-time Wells defender Akeem Adeyemo was substituted, already on a yellow card and having received a final warning from the referee.

The Wells came out after the interval with a greater sense of urgency and Jake Beecroft begun to take control in midfield, stretching the opposition with his range of passing.

On 66 minutes the Wells got their reward as Beecroft received a short pass from a free kick and lashed a fierce, 30-yard drive into the Canterbury net to level the scores.

The game became more stretched and a flurry of opportunities followed for both sides including a spectacular flying volley from Wells striker Jason Thompson that went just wide with the keeper stranded.

With all their substitutions made, the home side were left to play out the game with 10 men after an injury to their captain Lee Quinn, but the Wells were unable to take advantage.

The result leaves the Wells in 16th place in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division.

They now face a local derby against neighbours Rusthall at Culverden Stadium on Saturday [February 23, kick-off 3pm].
