TONBRIDGE ANGELS were held to a second goalless draw inside four days but manager Steve McKimm was pleased with a point against one of their potential play-off rivals.
They had drawn 0-0 in midweek in a rearranged Bostik League Premier visit to Lewis Wanderers, when Angels keeper Jonny Henly saved a penalty.
Both teams had chances to win the game on Saturday and Henly was on top form, pulling off some important saves.
A fast attack down the right after seven minutes gave Towners’ Billy Bricknell a free header but his effort drifted just wide of the right-hand post.
Four minutes later Sam Young’s 25-yard pile-driver crashed against the Angels’ crossbar.
The half-hour mark saw an Enfield corner cause mayhem in the Angels’ six-yard box with the woodwork again coming to the rescue.
There had been little for the Angels supporters to get excited about but on 35 minutes a good run by Tom Derry saw him get round the back of the defence, though the cross was overhit.
On the stroke of half-time Derry was fouled on the edge of the area, and Joe Turner’s free kick exploited a gap in the defensive wall but was straight at Enfield custodian Matt Nolan.
The second period saw an improved showing by the Angels with three good chances created inside eight minutes, two for Derry and one for Alex Read.
The 74th minute saw Turner make a fine run into the heart of the Enfield defence and lay the ball off to Read, whose deflected effort was expertly saved by Nolan.
Henly was called into action in the 80th and 89th minutes as Enfield tried to claim all the points but the keeper was equal to the task.
McKimm said: “This is a difficult place to come to and for the second game running we have kept the distance between ourselves and other playoff contenders.
“Am I worried that we haven’t scored in three [games]? No, I have three strikers at my disposal and they will do the business.
“What we must do, however, is get points on the board from our next two games, both at home, so that we don’t waste the good work done here.”
The Angels are at home to AFC Hornchurch on Saturday [March 9, kick-off 3pm].
