TONBRIDGE ANGELS Ladies wrapped up a highly successful year with a comfortable victory over Sittingbourne in the KCFA Women’s Plate.

The result means they go into the new year with three cup quarter-finals to contest as well as sitting in the top three of Division One East, having recently beaten both sides above them.

Following a number of postponements, it has been difficult for the Angels side to gather any sort of momentum.

But they brushed aside their concerns with a sparkling first-half display which saw the hosts chalk up six goals without reply.

It was fitting that the show would be stolen by the top scorer in 2018, Becky Janes, who scored her eighth hat-trick for the club and took her all-time tally over the 50-mark.

She opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a simple tap-in after Becky Mackley had broken clear and played a pass across the goal.

Kelly Moran doubled the lead on 23 minutes, curling in a free kick from 25 yards out. Eight minutes later Mackley set up Janes again, and in the 39th minute Mackley took her turn to score.

There was now an air of ruthlessness about Tonbridge as Janes scored her third on 41 minutes and Mackley made it 6-0 a minute before half-time.

Sittingbourne regrouped but were thwarted by Helena Fothergill’s excellent last-ditch saves.

The Ladies are back in league action when Glebe visit Hadlow College on January 6.
