THE Rustics showed significant improvement on their first half of the campaign to pick up a valuable point after taking just one from their previous 13 games.

In Jimmy Anderson’s second game in charge, there was a feeling of expectation at Jockey Stadium as Rusthall unveiled three new signings.

A crowd of more than 100 also greeted the return of keeper Callum Christie and Tom Cameron from long-term injury.

The quality of their play was at a higher level than had been seen previously this season and the home side showed their intent from the start, with Steve Camacho embarking on a mazy run.

Both sides played with a high work-rate, which resulted in few chances at either end during the first half.

Rusthall went on the offensive again at the start of the second half and the breakthrough came in the 59th minute.

A good move down the right saw James Miles put in a cross over the heads of the defenders.

Charley Clover anticipated well and ran on to the ball, firing a shot past the goalkeeper for his second goal in as many games for Rusthall.

Rusthall were looking comfortable but in the 69th minute a free kick into the Rusthall box was only half-cleared.

Louis Valencia scored for the visitors with an unstoppable shot which gave Christie no chance in the Rusthall goal.

Erith then went on to dominate the game for the next ten minutes.

Rusthall forced their way back into the match in search of the winner but to no avail.

Rusthall’s next match is at home to Sheppey on Saturday January 12, kick-off 3pm.
