RUSTHALL put up a good fight but Beckenham, who sit on top of the Southern Counties East League Premier Division, but the visitors were deserved winners at Jockey Farm.

The opening exchanges were even but then an inswinging Beckenham corner was not cleared and Callum McGeehan found the net.

Two minutes later when a Rusthall attack broke down and a long ball was cleared over the home defence. Richard Atkins outpaced his pursuers and slotted the ball past Joe Cullip.

For the rest of the half Rusthall were on the defensive with Beckenham continuing to cause problems with the ball over the top.

In the last minute of the first half the visitors should have been awarded a penalty when Cullip was faced with a one-on-one but the referee deemed his challenge a fair one.

In the second half Beckenham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Cullip had to pull off a magnificent save.

The second period was a much more even affair and Rusthall could have found a way back into the match in the last ten minutes.

Steve Camacho weaved his way into the Beckenham box and was brought down by the full-back but the goalkeeper saved the resulting spot-kick. In injury time Callum Gallie was sent off for his second yellow card.

Rusthall entertain Cray Valley at home on Wednesday [November 7, 7.45pm kick-off] but have no game on Saturday.
