RUSTHALL had a very ‘bad day at the office’, according to the club’s chairman Joe Croker, when they were thrashed 7-0 at home to Chatham Town.
The humbling defeat leaves them one place off the bottom of the Southern Counties East League Premier Division.
The pattern was set in the first minute when Chatham nearly scored from their first attack and a subsequent corner.
The visitors were awarded a penalty after 19 minutes which broke the deadlock, and they went on to dominate the match.
Rusthall were missing half a dozen players through injury and work commitments, which meant they were playing out of position.
Joint managers Andrew McKechnie and Mike Cramp, who took over at the start of the season, have also had to tinker with the formation.
“Against a team of the quality of Chatham it was inevitable that they would struggle,” said Joe Croker, the club’s chairman.
“The players, management and committee are all devastated to lose by such a large margin but we have to be at our very best to compete against teams like Chatham and on Saturday we fell below that standard.
“Now is the time for everyone to show their character and bounce back from one bad result. I have confidence that results will improve.”
Rusthall now face Bearsted away from home on Saturday [October 6,kick-off 3pm].
