The 5-1 triumph for the Crowborough school came against Hazelwick from Crawley, where the England manager Gareth Southgate was a pupil.

Beacon opened the scoring with Ronnie Austin strong on the left, then firing in from close range.

He also won a penalty with dazzling footwork in the box, and the Beacon captain Josh Turner made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-0.

Jake Rutherford showed good agility and control to beat his marker and unleash a shot that was converted by Will Bentley with a well timed run.

Beacon looked comfortable but a mistimed pass in defence gave Hazelwick a chance to get back into the game, making the score 3-1 at half-time.

In the second half the game ebbed and flowed but neither team was able to take their chances until Austin picked the ball up in the centre of midfield and unleashed a pile driver from 30 yards into the roof of the net.

Will Bentley calmly rounded the keeper to slot in Beacon’s fifth goal.

Paul Cottrell, Assistant Head of PE at the Crowborough school, said: “The whole squad gave a superb performance to cap off a strong season. It was a five-star performance from the team and a fantastic way to end the season.”
