Fishing: Team Grand Max blow rivals away in high winds

Despite this the water level stayed at over 70 per cent, which is well above average for this time of year.

The water temperature has cooled in recent weeks, which has seen the sport pick up for any method and fly anglers, with fish being caught in all areas, particularly Rosemary Lane and Chingley woods.

Bewl hosted the annual Bewl Bridge Fly Fishers’ Grand Max event last month with 65 anglers taking part in high winds.

This led to a mix of results, with Team Grand Max winning with a total weight of 28lb 14oz. The largest fish was 3lb, caught by Harry Fox from Walthamstow Fly Fishers.

The competitors enjoyed three meals throughout the day in The Boat House Bistro, offering them respite from the wind.

Bewl Water has extended the predator fishing season this year with permits available for pike and perch from 1st November 1 to January 31.
