THE finale to Cowdrey’s title-winning season in Kent League Division Four did not seem to be going to plan as they were reduced to 76 for 7 after choosing to bat first.

Australian Ashley Borella (33), captaining the side in the absence of ,  was the only top-order player to make any impression as Harvey Crump was the chief destroyer, finishing with 5 for 42.

But down the order Thom Brown (38) and Nick Farr dug the home side out of a hole, putting on 91 runs for the eighth wicket.

Farr recorded his first fifty for the club in compiling for a First XI career-best 61 and Cowdrey managed to post 212 for 9.

In response Rainham’s top order also struggled in similar circumstances and stumbled to 54 for 5 thanks to the efforts of opening bowlers Ryan Addison (3 for 32) and the inspired Farr (4 for 58).

The introduction of Gautam Juneja, who was celebrating his 17th birthday, broke the stubborn resistance of the middle order, the young leg spinner finishing with 2 for 21 in his nien overs.

Oliver Lea dug in at No 7 and proved a thorn in the Cowdrey attack’s side but Borella trapped him leg before to leave Rainham all out for 171, 41 runs short.

Cowdrey topped the division by 48 points from Catford Wanderers with Tonbridge finishing in third place, just missing out on promotion.
