The look of luxe

The Beacon has launched a collection of stunning new bedrooms, all of which have been designed by the talented local interior design business SGS Designs. SO magazine was invited along to the venue for an exclusive tour of its six new luxurious suites…

Ever since the I’ll Be Mother Group took it over The Beacon on Tea Garden Lane in Tunbridge Wells, it has become one of the hottest go-to destinations in the local area.

Whether you’re attending a wedding in its beautiful Grand Pavilion marquee, dining in one of its two stylish restaurants – where the exceptional food offering is overseen by chef extraordinaire Scott Goss – or simply enjoying a chilled aperitif on its terrace, The Beacon is the place to go if you’re after a memorable high-end hospitality experience.

And now its owners and visionaries Pete and Viv Cornwell, founders of the I’ll Be Mother Group, have enhanced it even further by transforming their former family home’s bedrooms into six sumptuous suites which have been designed by the extremely talented Sophie Stevens and her SGS Designs team. They are responsible for the rest of the establishment’s chic interiors too.

The six new luxury rooms boast names like Yarrow, Burdock and Beechnut, reflecting the abundance of nature that surrounds them thanks to The Beacon’s charming country location.

Each room is individually decorated, giving it a unique and ultra-sophisticated character. Yarrow overlooks the breath-taking views of Happy Valley, and features a round copper bathtub in the Princess Turret Window, while Blackthorn boasts a chic monochrome décor complete with a showstopping chandelier. Spindle Berry has a scalloped king-size bed and an antique writing bureau – just in case you’re inspired to write while you sojourn…The six new rooms means that The Beacon now offers seven bedrooms in total after it launched its Summer House Cabin earlier this year. This is located in the grounds of the venue and has proved to be enormously popular with both locals and visitors from further afield.

Pete and Viv told SO magazine: “Now is the perfect time to add to the dining experience of The Beacon by opening our former family home to our guests. We have always been asked about staying at our beautiful country house and now was the right time to do this. So our guests can stay and relax in a beautiful country home environment.”

Sophie Stevens, interior designer of SGS Designs added: “The Beacon is an iconic Tunbridge Wells location and renowned for its views, so it was important our design for the rooms reflected the woodland and lakes in the grounds but also references the Arts & Crafts architectural style but interpreted with a playful twist.

“The rooms are an extension of the Garden Kitchen, main Restaurant and wedding venue so we wanted them to be an extension of the design work we had already undertaken in other areas of the building.”
