Restaurant wall collapses in Tunbridge Wells town centre

Ask Italian on Monson Road, which never reopened after lockdown, had been under threat of permanent closure after owners Azzurri announced it was to shut 75 restaurants across the UK.

While the restaurant chain has yet to officially announce which branches it would close, the property has been emptied.

But today, [Friday, August 7], just days after Ask Italian had removed furtniture from the building – which the restaurant chain leased from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council – a wall collapsed and part of the roof caved in.

The owner of Albie’s Barbers on Monson Road, told the Times: “It made a hell of a bang.

“It was an air conditioning unit that came off and took half the wall with it. The fire brigade turned up but left soon afterwards.”

Kent Fire and Rescue said nobody was hurt in the incident.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council have been approached for comment.
