Tonbridge flies the green flag

Haysden Country Park has been given a Green Flag Award for the twelfth year in a row.

Set in an area of countryside covering about 165 acres in the Medway Valley to the west of Tonbridge, the park includes a new play area, and jetty at Barden Lake.

There are also picnic tables overlooking it, and a range of habitats such as grassland, freshwater lakes, marshland and woodland, which are home to a wealth of insects, birds and animals.

The park is managed and maintained by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council with the help of local volunteers who meet regularly to carry out organised tasks like litter picking, coppicing and tree planting.

Cabinet member Cllr Maria Heslop said:  “We continue to develop the park thanks to the help of our volunteer groups and rangers and this year visitors can enjoy lots of new wildflowers and plants at Barden Lake as well as the jetty, picnic area and play areas for children of all ages.”
