An indie band from Tonbridge will be contending to be crowned the best new act in the world at the Global Battle of the Bands final in Germany this week.
The Days We Don’t formed just two years ago and have gained a strong regional following since launching their debut single at the Forum in Tunbridge Wells.
They have already performed across the South East and hope their appearance at the battle of the bands event in Berlin will offer them a decisive break. The five-piece group will be playing material from their new EP, ‘Counting Sheep’ at the event, which takes place on Thursday, May 26th.
The band includes vocalist Matt Bond, lead guitarist Jamie Elderton, bassist Adam Taylor, rhythm guitarist Henry Every and drummer James Rudd-Jones.
Singer Matt believed that reaching the final, featuring acts from a total of 14 countries including from across Europe, the Ukraine, Australia and Singapore, was vindication for their hard work to date.
He said: “It is a life-changing opportunity for a local indie band to be able to play their own original music to a live audience, with no need for a label or management to get us there.
“It has shown us that the hard work we have put into our own self-promotion and self-management can pay off in such a competitive industry. With our biggest crowd to date being 200 at the Tunbridge Wells Forum, a venue with a capacity of 800 in a foreign country is a massive step.
He added: “We are competing with great musicians and bands established in their home country, but whatever the outcome, a competition like this – which values original music and songwriting – is very rare, and a huge opportunity to reach a guaranteed wider audience without needing to be signed to a label. We hope to do the UK proud.”
