Teachers at two local secondary schools have won a county award.

Many more made the shortlist across 23 categories at the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2018, which were held last month at the Mercure Maidstone Hotel.

A winner had previously been named for all 12 districts in Kent, and an overall winner was announced at the ceremony.

Catherine Dottridge, of Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in Tunbridge Wells, was named Top School Business Manager, and
Tayla Strudwick, of Hillview School for Girls, Tonbridge, was named Top Sports Teacher.

The awards were organised by several organisations, including Kent County Council, and 1,200 nominations were received from parents, pupils and staff.

Mrs Dottridge has worked at Bennett and other schools in the Tenax Schools Trust academy group for three years.

She said: ‘It is a great honour to have my work for Tenax recognised in this way. Since I joined, we have done a huge amount to create systems and processes to run the business side of a growing and successful Trust at a challenging time for school finance.’
