Star studded cast descends on Tunbridge Wells for BBC series
INBETWEENER: Greg Davies on the set

Among those starring in ‘The Cleaner’ are Helena Bonham Carter, from The Crown, Peep Show funnyman David Mitchell, plus Inbetweeners actor Greg Davies.

The BBC would not confirm which of the stars were in the area for the shoot, but various locations were said to include the woods in Hawkenbury and areas in Broadwater Down.

The new show, which has been written by its main star, Greg Davies, follows Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead, a crime-scene cleaner responsible for the removal of any signs of death at murders.

The series follows Wicky as he carries out his duties while stumbling across the strangest of people, from the victim’s relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances to occasionally even the murderers themselves.

It may sound like a grim subject for a light entertainment series, but it is based on the multi-award-winning and long-running German comedy ‘Der Tatortreiniger’ (Crime Scene Cleaner), created by Ingrid Lausund.

Greg Davies has said of the series: “I’m thrilled that this remarkable collection of actors has agreed to appear next to me on screen. Scrubbing up blood in a hazmat suit in front of them will be a pleasure.”

Shane Allen, Commissioning Controller for BBC Comedy, added that he had to ‘pinch himself’ when he heard about the proposed ‘comedy and acting royalty’ in the show.

“It’s all down to Greg’s well-hewn scripts which take us in to different character worlds in surprising and funny ways each week, as Wicky has a transformative effect on those he comes across. The Cleaner delivers on BBC One’s unique commitment to make UK comedy for a mainstream audience.”

The show is expected to air at some point later this year, but details have yet to be confirmed.
