Spirit of Christmas

Nine months ago this newspaper was launched with the front page headline ‘Good morning Tunbridge Wells’ and the message that we wanted to bring a different weekly publication to the town; one that was high-end and focused on local businesses.

We said that we wanted to publish ‘all the news that matters – local, national and international’. We believe we have have done just that with more than 3,000 stories and features and nearly a third of them on Tunbridge Wells businesses.

Today we are taking the front page to say ‘thank you’ to all of our readers, advertisers and other friends for their support in making the opening year of the Times of Tunbridge Wells such a success. Success that comes at a time when many other towns across the country are losing their traditional local newspapers.

But we also want to use this edition to bring you two stories, inside the newspaper, that for us epitomise all that is good about Tunbridge Wells.

The first shows the co-operation between local businesses and food bank volunteers to make sure no one goes hungry at this special time of the year. Their campaign is appropriately called Our Town Cares.

The second story is about the Mayor’s Toy Appeal. It has attracted thousands of pre-sents from shoppers, office workers and residents who want to make sure needy children get a visit from Santa.

On their behalf we also want to say ‘thank you’ and wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.
