Pupils take centre stage at national drama competition

The Mead School in Tunbridge Wells gave a professional level performance in the ISA drama contests

For the third year in a row, students from The Mead School have triumphed at a national drama contest held for the country’s independent schools.

At the recent Independent Schools Association [ISA] Drama Festival, budding actors from The Mead School in Tunbridge Wells were awarded one of the national contest’s top prizes.

ISA member schools from across the country perform in this annual competition, and have their performances assessed by an independent judge against set criteria.

Year 6 pupils from the co-educational Mead School won The Hydesville Tower Prize for best musical production with their performance of Daisy Pulls it Off, a parody of life in an English boarding school set in the 1920s.

After their success, the young actors performed a special production at Trinity Theatre for their parents, friends and family.

‘For a cast of ten and 11 year olds to put on such a professional production is quite incredible. Everything from the costumes to the staging to the acting and singing was of the highest calibre, and everyone involved thoroughly deserves recognition.’

The school’s Headmaster, Andrew Webster

The Mead has a strong track record in drama, having won top prizes at the ISA national competition for the past two years, including the Best Junior Production in 2016 for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the same prize the following year for their performance of Peter Pan.
