A project to provide space and opportunity for those interested in growing fruit, vegetables and herbs in Sherwood was launched last week.

‘I Dig Sherwood’ is a partnership between Town & Country Foundation and Kent High Weald Partnership which will provide workshops and allotment spaces to encourage local people to grow their own healthy food.

The scheme was made possible through an £8,000 grant from Tesco Bags of Help, which uses money raised from the 5p charge on carrier bags to fund local projects throughout the UK.

The allotment spaces at Burslem Road, Tunbridge Wells, have been repurposed for the project and they formally opened for use on August 9.

Head of Town & Country Foundation Jackie Sumner said: “We focus on supporting our residents to sustain their tenancies by encouraging healthy lifestyles. This is a fun opportunity to save money, eat healthily and learn new skills.”
