Popular butchers' shop might now be saved from the chop
Peter Speaight butchers may reopen under new ownership

Peter Speaight Butchers in Chapel Place closed on February 11. The Speaight family have had a butchers shop in the town since 1972.

Following the closure, Richard Hards of Larratt Butchers in Westerham is hoping to take over the site.

Mr Hards, who lives in Tunbridge Wells said the plan was to open as soon as possible. “It is on track at the moment and we are nearly there,” he told the Times.

“The sale is currently with the solicitors but we are hoping to open as soon as possible, so we can keep the staff and ensure the customers don’t forget the shop.”

He continued that he planned on retaining the three staff members that currently work at the shop.

“Everything will be the same other than a little fresh blood in the shop,” he said.
