Horsmonden Primary pupils can take advantage of new play equipment, thanks to 12 months of fundraising efforts.

Tunbridge Wells deputy mayor David Neve officially opened the refurbished area on October 9, when youngsters had the chance to try out their new climbing frame and swings.

The school’s Friends association had raised £15,000 in 12 months to carry out stage one of a project whose aim is to refurbish the whole playground. The Times has previously reported that this was ‘vital’, owing to ? ooding and because parts of the equipment were unsafe.

Alison Boon, chairman of the Friends of Hormonden Primary, said: “The entire school, other members of the Friends committee and governor Richard Greenwood attended the opening ceremony. It was a fantastic culmination of more than 12 months of hard fundraising and was great to see the children enjoying the play equipment.

“Future fundraising will be used to further improve other areas of the playground that are not usable. The children are delighted with their new play area.”
