Network Rail delays bridge traffic chaos

Grosvenor Bridge is to be reopened in August say KCC

The proposed repairs to Grosvenor Bridge, which would have closed it for six months from last Sunday, have been put on hold indefinitely while work on the railway line is carried out.

The works on the bridge’s faulty concrete piers is set to cause major hold-ups since traffic using the busy access point will be redirected into the town centre’s one-way system.

A Kent County Council spokesman said: “Work has unfortunately been delayed whilst we wait for Network Rail to divert a high-voltage power cable located on their land.

“This was due to be done by Network Rail ahead of our work starting on June 12. Discussions with Network Rail continue and we have requested a revised date from them as a matter of urgency.

“Once a date for the cable diversion has been confirmed, the bridge works will be rescheduled and residents and local businesses will be updated.”

The Times approached Network Rail for comment yesterday, however, they had failed to reply by the time the paper went to press.
