Longfield Road reopening ‘is weeks away’

Coach and Horses Passage

A spokesman for Kent County Council confirmed the official opening of the £7.3 million Longfield Road improvement scheme, ‘is just weeks away.’

The upgrade involves dualling one kilo-metre of the carriageway between Dowding Way roundabout and the A21 and replacing existing traffic signals with roundabouts.

But progress had been hampered by several utility companies failing to stick to agreed schedules, the spokesman said.

KCC major projects manager Mary Gillett added: “Much of the carriageway is now complete and the road will be fully open by the end of the month.

“This has taken a tremendous amount of hard work. It was never going to be an easy build because we were working on a road that everyone agreed was heavily congested.

“In order to minimise disruption, wherever possible, work was planned so that it was carried out with the least impact on traffic, for example restricting surfacing work to the night-time.”
