Helping kids to stay visible this winter

As the winter evenings draw in and the school run becomes increasingly conducted in the dark, there was no better time for the children of St Matthew’s Junior School to receive 50 high-visibility vests.

The generous donation was made to raise awareness of the road safety charity Brake which works with communities to stop the tragedy of road deaths and injuries.

The company behind the donation was the Tunbridge Wells branch of Specsavers, which this year had chosen to promote Brake as their charity of choice.

Ian Hyland, store director at Specsavers Tunbridge Wells said: “Now that the clocks have changed and the nights are getting darker, we want to ensure that children – and their parents – feel safe when they’re out and about over the next few months.

“By raising awareness of Brake and by offering the children these vests, we hope that they take extra care on trips and excursions.”

Brake is a national road safety charity which exists to prevent deaths and injuries which happen on roads on a daily basis, through campaigns and other funding.

The charity also promotes safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies.
