Paddock Wood Town Council has announced with ‘much regret’ that the collared dove which had occupied the town’s Christmas tree, preventing its removal, has abandoned her nest.
The nest had been monitored by the council, who noticed she had failed to return to the tree for some time, even though she was seen in the area, resulting in the egg she was trying to hatch going cold.
The RSPB advised that the egg will not hatch as the nest is no longer active.
The council will remove the tree this week.
