Denny’s Place to boost trade

Tunbridge Wells barber’s Denny’s Place will hold a charity event on September 4 in memory of Denny Rowe, the shop’s founder.

It will raise money for cancer research to continue the fundraising legacy of the well-known hairdresser.

Mr Rowe, who passed away three years ago, raised £60,000 for various charities during his lifetime – and became known as the world’s fastest barber in the process.

The occasion is also designed to raise the profile of the shops and businesses on Grosvenor Road, which do not tend to attract casual custom because of their location.

Storm Walker, Mr Rowe’s daughter and director of Denny’s Place, said: “We are trying to use this opportunity to get the local community back together, working together to make people aware that we are here.

“The shops on Grosvenor Road are very specific and people don’t just wander up to have a look. They seem to think that the town starts at Tesco.”

There will be a raffle, barbecue and cake sale, while the Fourteen Arrows studio are offering tattoos for £20.

Denny Rowe was entered into the Guinness Book of Records after he shaved the faces of 1,994 men in 60 minutes on June 19, 1988.
