Denny’s fundraiser proves a cut above

Tunbridge Wells barber’s Denny’s Place raised more than £3,000 for cancer research charities last month at an event to continue the legacy of Denny Rowe, the shop’s founder.

Pride of place goes to the marathon tattooing session by 14 Arrows Studio, who work in the basement of the hairdresser’s on Grosvenor Road.

The team managed to tattoo 94 people from 9am to 10pm, working non-stop and raising £2,080.

The feat brought to mind Mr Rowe’s own record, when he entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s fastest barber, shaving the faces of 1,994 men in one hour in 1988.

Storm Walker, Mr Rowe’s daughter and Director of Denny’s Place, said: “I know my dad was looking down wishing he could have been there, but being immensely proud of what we have all done.

“Cancer is a nasty, awful disease, and with my dad I know the effects it has on the family and how hard it is to cope with losing a loved one.

“Today we are making amazing headway in finding cures, and if we can help be a part of that then there is nothing better we could have done.”
