Date set for ‘land tax’ legal briefing

The meeting for residents of Rusthall and Tunbridge Wells Commons to discuss Targetfollow’s land tax letters will be held on Friday (May 13) at the Ratcliffe Centre, formerly Rusthall Fire Station.

The owners of Rusthall Manor have sent out a series of letters demanding payment in return for access rights to the properties on their land and use of utilities supplied across the commons.

Local solicitor Jill Thomas will be present to give a ‘general overview’ of the legal implications of the correspondence, which has upset many local people.

People are being asked to prove their ‘prescriptive rights’ of access or pay the company an annual fee of £350 and a signup charge of £300. Alternatively, they can appoint Targetfollow to create on their behalf a relevant document – which would also cost money.

The meeting will begin at 7pm and will be chaired by Rusthall borough councillor Cllr Thelma Huggett.
