Cyclists raise £7k in charity challenge

A group of fundraisers beat targets to raise £7,115 for the Hospice in the Weald by cycling a total of 1,654 miles on stationary bikes.

The team of 24 staff from Gleeds pedalled the equivalent of the journey from the property and construction consultancy’s Tunbridge Wells office to its other 15 UK branches, and to Paris, in 24 hours at the end of September.

Gleeds director Richard Hine, who helped rally support for the event, said the aim had been to cycle 1,300 miles and raise £5,000.

He added: “We wanted to get everyone in the office involved in fundraising and decided the most inclusive approach would be running an event from the office.

“We’ve had a phenomenal response from staff and supporters, everyone really got behind the challenge and as a result we’ve managed to exceed our fundraising target by £2,000.

“We’re longstanding supporters of Hospice in the Weald. The work they do to support patients and families is truly remarkable, so to be fundraising for them again in this way, makes us very proud – and the achy legs all worthwhile.”
