Council Leader’s wife Wendy Jukes dies aged 75

The former Tunbridge Wells Mayoress Avice ‘Wendy’ Jukes has died. She was being treated for renal failure and had been ill for some time.

Mrs Jukes passed away yesterday [Tuesday] at Heatherview Nursing Home in Crowborough. She was 75.

Mrs Jukes was the wife of the current Leader of the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council David Jukes and served as Mayoress between 2010 and 2011 when he held the post of Mayor.

She was a popular figure in Tunbridge Wells and was extremely well liked, particularly by the wives of other council members.

Born in Tooting she was a trained chef and was married to Cllr Jukes for 55 years. She was the mother of two grown-up children, Nigel and Kate and grandmother to four boys.

No details of funeral arrangement have yet been announced.
