Butchers is saved from the chop and reopens with delivery only service

Peter Speaight butchers at 15 Chapel Place closed earlier this year, following the ill health of its eponymous owner.

Mr Speaight, whose family has had a butcher’s shop in the town since 1972, closed the shop on February 11.

Richard Hards, who also runs Larratt & Co in Westerham, has taken over the reins of the Tunbridge Wells shop and reopened, but will provide a ‘deliver only’ service throughout the coronavirus outbreak.

It is understood the business will be renamed as part of the Larratt & Co brand.

Mr Hards, new proprietor said, “My first priority for the new Tunbridge Wells shop is to ensure all our local customers can still get hold of the meat and produce they need in the safest possible way.

“We very much look forward to re-opening the butcher shop in time and I’m pleased to say that the Nick, Paige and Jackie, the team who ran the shop under Peter Speaight, will continue to run the store once it reopens”

He added that deliveries of fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, eggs & cheese will be free of charge in the Tunbridge Wells area throughout the current health emergency.

Customers can view the available produce on the Larratt & Co website.
