Broadwater Down Primary gets ready to party with music festival

The event is organised by the PTA, and committee member Ellie-Mae said: “Come rain or shine we’ll be rocking our wellies to the beats of Tunbridge Wells’ finest bands, and serving up delicious local food and drink.”

The festival will take place in the school grounds on Saturday June 29 from 4-8pm. Tickets cost £7 if pre-booked, or £8 on the day. Children are admitted free of charge.

There will be activities for all ages, including games, face painting and glitter, crafts, storytelling, raffle prizes and a bouncy castle.

Live bands include Kharma and the Devil, Shine, Muse tribute act Musek, and Local & Live trustee Peter Taylor with his new band River Flows, who will also be appearing at the Black Deer festival in Eridge that weekend.

PTA Chair Sarah West said: “As a PTA, we’re continually searching for bigger and better ways to bring the local community together and raise important funds for our school.

“We are proud that we’ve been able to support the school by funding new laptops, an online reading platform for all children, school trips and lots more over the last few years.”

Headteacher Vicki Lonie said: “We’re working to fund the development of a wellbeing suite, which will become a much-needed, secluded, nurturing and relaxing breakout space for staff to spend time with the children to support all their needs, away from the distractions of the busy school day.

“We also need to update the toilet blocks for all the classrooms – a functional but important facility that has long been neglected.”

She added: “Built in 1970, the building has evolved a little over the decades to best suit the number of students it supports, but in recent years it’s become apparent that the school building needs this practical attention.

“We are very lucky to have such an active PTA, and I hope the local community will support their hard work by rocking up and enjoying the entertainment!”

The organisers are keen to hear from local businesses who can help through a range of advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
