Arriva says Tunbridge Wells ‘hopper’ was not popular

Organiser Ingrid Pope [pictured] launched Tunbridge Wells Yard Sale last year after seeing a similar event in the US.

Arriva has scrapped its Tunbridge Wells Town Hopper bus ticket, citing that it was ‘not a popular service’.

The scheme allowed passengers to make unlimited journeys around the town centre all day for £1.60. It ran for the final time on Sunday, April 29.

Instead the firm has launched a new Twilight Ticket deal, which charges £1.50 for all single journeys made in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge after 7pm every night.

Arriva has clarified the deal extends to just the ‘ticket zone’ which covers both towns and extends from Hildenborough at its north to Hawkenbury at its south.

On replacing the Town Hopper, a spokesman said: ‘It wasn’t as popular a service so Arriva decided to launch Twilight instead as an offer for the town to help grow the evening economy in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.’

This limited-time deal ends on August 1. There is also an option to buy a Twilight Ticket for Sevenoaks zone.
