The road was closed in both directions this morning as investigations continues, and a 31-year-old man from London was arrested in connection with the incident.

Kent Police say they were called to the A21 at 2.34am on Thursday July 16, and the woman, who had sustained serious injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Meanwhile, Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance extinguishing a car fire at the same location.

Kent Police officers are working to establish the full circumstances, including how the woman came to fall and any possible connection with the vehicle fire and her death.

The 31-year-old man from London who was arrested remains in police custody.

The A21 remains closed to all traffic in both directions between the Morleys roundabout and the Tonbridge bypass, while enquiries at the scene continue.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone with information that may assist their investigation. Motorists who were travelling in the area at the same time are also asked to check dash cameras in case they captured any important footage.

Anyone with information should call Kent Police on 01622 604100, quoting 16-0120. Anybody with video footage can make a report through the Kent Police section of the Major Incident Public Reporting Site: https://mipp.police.uk/
