VISITORS Saffron Walden began the quicker at Hawkenbury and it required some great saves from Ali Playle and two blocks in the air on the line by Pip Ross and Amy Hare to keep them out.
But after that the hosts worked their way up the pitch with short, quick passes – the best tactic for this fit side – which saw the skilful Georgia Whitaker make forays up the left side.Â
Fine transfers using Bertie Organ made it easy to switch the ball over to the right, where Ele Cairns entered the D and smashed it past the goalie, putting Wells 1-0 up.
This one-goal buffer gave Wells confidence and control over the game, so the aggression continued, the backs quickly connecting with the forwards.
There was a fantastic work rate from Becky Bradbury, Annie Wilson and Jemma Stephenson, and strong tackles from Jess Begg and Laura Blaxland at the back.Â
Perdi Knight picked the ball up on the left baseline, drove it in and somehow managed to get the ball in the back of the net at a tight angle.
Although they lacked pace, Wells were much calmer on the ball and won a penalty stroke that Organ scored, giving the hosts a comfortable victory.
