WITH three crucial games looming in the space of a week, Angels Ladies chose to contest a friendly in a bid to keep up their impressive form in South East Counties Kent Division One – and they ran out winners in the last minute.
They made seven changes to the starting line-up and were a goal down inside the first minute from a break through the middle.
The equaliser came after five minutes to settle the nerves. Jodie Coombes chipped a pass into the path of Lauryn Underhill, who fired home.
The scores remained level until half-time and then Coombes got herself on the scoresheet after 52 minutes, driving in off the inside of the far post.
A sting in the tail arrived on 76 minutes when a clearance by keeper Tracy Edwards went straight to a Hillian midfielder, who quickly lobbed her from 40 yards out to equalise.
Tonbridge regained the lead in the 90th minute. Sam Wright played a perfect through-ball to Underhill, who delivered another calm finish.
The lead could have been extended twice in injury time. Abbie Skilton’s header hit the bar and Megan Akehurst had a shot cleared off the line.
The Ladies now face cup visits to Barming on Sunday and Charlton Athletic on Wednesday October 18 before a big league game at home to leaders Long Lane Development on October 22.
Angels to start girls’ team
Tonbridge Angels Ladies will be holding training sessions for girls aged 12 to 16 for six weeks starting on October 26.
The coaching will be held on Hayesbrook School’s 3G on Brook Street on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm.
The sessions are open to girls of all abilities, especially those interested in playing for a new Tonbridge Angels age-group team.
The sessions will be run by our Ladies team coaches, all of whom have FA Level 1 and Safeguarding certification.
The girls will train alongside the Ladies, who will be available to answer any questions too.
There is a £2 fee per session for all players, or you can pay £10 up front for the full six weeks.
