Wine to curry favour… Best bottles to have with your Indian meal

  1. Best Curry Party All-Rounder from Central-Eastern Spain

NV Toro Loco Spanish Rosé, Utiel-Requena, Spain (12%, £3.99, Aldi)

A great-value Valencian bobal rosado, all taffeta and silk, with a chorus of red fruits and a long, fresh finish. This cooling, fruity, cheap and cheerful quaffer will flutter along happily with chicken tikka masala or jalfrezi, and does not carry any alcohol heat to ramp up the heat in spicy food.

  1. Must-Try Supermarket Australian White

2017 Co-op Irresistible Chardonnay, Australia (12.5%, £7, Co-op)

This skilful vinous beauty is made by widely respected Aussie winemaker Larry Cherubino and offers pretty ripe peach, nectarine and apple flavours bouncing off a platform of crisp acidity, oak a very minor player. Easy with a tandoori chicken or a creamy chicken korma.

  1. Canny Chilean Carmenère

2017 Viña Errázuriz Estate Series Carmenère, Chile (13.5%, £9.30-£9.99, The DrinkShop/Majestic/Noble Grape)

Full-bodied and delicately spicy with supple tannins, smoky black cherry fruit and overtones of capsicum and coffee beans, this piquant wine shows just how good late-ripening, warm-hearted carmenère can be. Spot on with lamb madras, bhuna and rogan josh.
